
Peer Therapy Sessions
Peer Therapy sessions are conducted within our Livonia Clinic and Vocational location, which focus on cognitive/communication, daily living skill use, physical conditioning, appropriate interaction, problem solving and recovery adjustment, within treatment settings and the community. All sessions are led by an Occupational Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologist and/or CBIS-certified Vocational Rehab Specialist.
Communication & Movement:
- Small peer therapy sessions focus on promoting functional communication, enhancing peer involvement, and facilitating physical movement during hands-on therapeutic, artistic and leisure tasks
Client Empowerment & Support:
- Members actively engage in therapy tasks and topical discussions while receiving support, promoting motivation/encouragement, opportunities to increase self-confidence, greater understanding of the impact of persisting skill challenges, and ways to use daily strategies
Advanced Cognitive/ADL
- Members engage in tasks involving higher-level, advanced functioning skills to promote social interaction, advanced activities of daily living and effective compensatory strategy use, while participating in challenges and skill demands including community-based therapeutic tasks
Young Adult Peer Sessions
- Teens to Twenties (Young Adult) peer sessions provide opportunities to interact with others within the community, explore resources and participate in various planned therapeutic and training activities
- Opportunities are provided to learn and practice healthy living strategies and interactions within community settings offered
- Early work skills development will be provided by supportive peer interaction, peer feedback and confidence-building
